Cycle of Compulsory Course Offerings and their Revisions (revisons are not applicable to PStO 2025)

For compulsory economics courses which take place annually, a revision tutorial and an reexamination are offered in the following semester.

The tutorial does substitute lecture attendance, but serves as review and practice. It is assumed that students are familiar with the relevant lecture material.

It is strongly recommended that students attend the yearly standard lecture with it’s corresponding tutorial and exam. However it is possible to take part on the re-examination as a first try („Erstversuch“).

Below an overview of the exams concerned:

  • Mikroökonomie: lecture + tutorial WS; revision tutorial SuSe
  • Makroökonomie: lecture + tutorial offered in WS and in SuSe
  • Einführung in die Anwendungsgebiete der Volkswirtschaftslehre: lecture WS; revision lecture SuSe
  • Empirische Ökonomie: lecture + tutorial WS, revision tutorial SoSe
  • Mathematische Methoden der Volkswirtschaftslehre, from SoSe 2020 Mathematical Methods in Economics: lecture + tutorial WS; revision tutorial WS
  • Mikroökonomie für Fortgeschrittene, as of SuSe 2022 Microeconomics 2: lecture + tutorial SuSe; revision tutorial WS
  • Makroökonomie für Fortgeschrittene, as of SuSe 2018 Macroeconomics 2: lecture + tutorial SuSe; revision tutorial WS
  • Empirische Ökonomie für Fortgeschrittene, as of WS 2018/2019 Econometrics 2: lecture + tutorial WS; revision tutorial SuSe
  • Ressourcenallokation & Wirtschaftspolitik (FiWi 1), as of WS 2018/2019 Public Policy and Resource Allocation: lecture+ tutorial WS; revision tutorial SuSe
  • Das öffentliche Budget: Einnahmen und Ausgaben (FiWi 2): lecture + tutorial SuSe; revision tutorial WS

The compulsory economics elective modules comprise 6 ECTS credits (6 or 12 ECTS credits in the Master's degree program) and are already completed when the module examination is passed.

In order to improve grades, the offering cycle of a module is always relevant. The offering cycle in the VWL elective module area is semester-based. Therefore, the originally passed examination can only be improved by a different concrete examination directly in the following semester. (not PStO 2025!)

It is also important to note that if you register for several examinations in one module, the regulations for grade improvement will apply and you will lose ECTS points, as only one examination is counted due to the grade improvement.
Therefore, please ensure that you normally only register for one examination per module!

The module assignment of specific VWL elective courses is carried out as part of the examination registration in LSF.

If, after registering for an exam in LSF, you want to check again which module you have assigned the respective exam to, you can check it again in the following way:

    • In the “Exam registration and deregistration” function, click on the relevant compulsory elective module.
    • An exam that is registered in this module is marked with a small “an” (=registered) at the front of the line.
    • Examinations that are registered in a module other than the one currently open are marked with an “x” (= examination registered in another module).

The individual economics elective courses offered each semester can be found in the LSF course catalog. As a rule, any compulsory elective course can be allocated to any of the compulsory elective modules listed above. This module allocation is done when registering for the respective course exam in LSF via the module tree.

    Advanced Seminars (Bachelor) / 12 ECTS-Courses (Master)

    Bachelor:

    There are no formal prerequisites.

However, it is strongly recommended that you have successfully completed the following modules before registering for an advanced seminar.

    • Mikroökonomie I
    • Makroökonomie I
    • Empirische Ökonomie I
    • Mathematische Methoden der VWL.

    Master:

    There are no formal prerequisites.

You can find the range of seminars / courses viaLSF (menu item -> "Vorlesungsverzeichnis").

The examination board has ordered binding registration verbindliche Anmeldung (PDF, 109 KB)for the advanced seminars.

Registration for the advanced seminars is done via LSF (menu item -> “Register/deregister for courses”). When registering, priorities can be specified for the individual seminars (highest priority = 1). It is strongly recommended that you prioritize all seminars. If you only indicate priorities for one or a few seminars, you risk not getting a seminar place if the prioritized seminars are overbooked!

In LSF, you can register for one advanced seminar (Bachelor) or 12 ECTS course (Master) per semester. If you are planning more than one specialization seminar or more than one 12 ECTS course in a semester, please register for the additional courses via the clearing procedure.

Important: Within the registration period, the time of registration is not relevant for the allocation of places in a particular seminar!

    • The seminar places are allocated by lottery, taking into account the priorities given when registering. In this procedure, all registered students are assigned an individual random number, the list of registrations is then sorted according to the random numbers and then processed in this order when allocating places. A place is always allocated in the seminar with the highest priority in which at least one free place is still available at the respective position on the list. Unfortunately, it cannot be guaranteed that all registered students will be allocated a place in the seminars with the highest priority.
    • The Faculty of Economics endeavors to offer a seminar place to all registered students.
    • Students in the bachelor's degree program in economics who register more than twice for an advanced seminar will be given lower priority for each further registration, i.e. priority will be given to the wishes of those students who have registered for a seminar no more than twice so far.
    • Reasons for which students are not responsible and which have led to their withdrawal from a seminar do not, of course, result in a sanction.
    • After seat allocation is complete, registered students will be informed of the seminar allocation by email.

Important: As registration for the advanced seminars is always done one semester in advance, please always register in LSF in the course catalog of the summer semester for the following winter semester or in the winter semester for the following summer semester.

If the registration deadline for the SPS has been missed or second seminar is desired, students can be placed on a waiting list for the allocation of places within the deadline for the clearing procedure (see below).

    • Please send an email with your name, matriculation number and a prioritzed list of seminars to E-Mail.
    • For technical reasons, you can only register with your campus e-mail address. Registrations with other contact e-mails can not be considered.
    • Please understand that confirmation of request emails can not be sent.

If seminar seats remain free after the regular registration/allocation period or if registered students have withdrawn from their seminar seat, these free spots will be raffled off, after the end of the grace period, among the students on the waiting list according to the same procedure for raffling off the seminar places of the regularly registered students.

Please note: There is no guarantee that students will be allocated a seat by way of the clearing procedure!

After the regular registration period has taken place and seats have been allocated, seminar spots can be swapped within the grace period (see below).

If you would like to swap your allocated seminar place and have a swap partner, please send an email to isc@econ.lmu.de with the names, matriculation numbers and campus email addresses of both swap partners, stating the desired swap preference. isc@econ.lmu.de.

It is not pssoble to swap seats without providing this information!

Please note it is necessary to register for the examination of the advanced seminars in LSF and thereby assign the registration either the module "Grundlagen wissenschaftlicher Profilbildung I" or "Grundlagen wissenschaftlicher Profilbildung II".

Exam registration for seminars is possible from the first day of the semester in which the seminar takes place (WS: from Oct.1st, SuSe: from April 1st) until the grades are entered by the chair.
